The mission of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the people of California. The CHP Air Operations Program accomplishes this mission with both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
North to south, our operations cover from the north side of Stanislaus and Tuolumne Counties to the top of the Grapevine Mountains near Fort Tejon. East to west, we cover parts of the coastal mountain range known as Joaquin Ridge to the White Mountains of Inyo and Mono Counties.
The area is in excess of 29,000 square miles and contains the highest, most extreme terrain in the contiguous United States. This terrain includes Mount Whitney and several other mountain peaks that extend well above 14,000 feet.
